Hacking Toddler Mealtime

My daughter has always been a good eater, but as a finicky, distracted toddler, her interest in a plate of food can wane from time to time.

That’s not a knock against my cooking, by the way. I just had to call in some reinforcements to spice things up.

Enter Oxo Baby Blocks.

These were all over the place when I was registering for baby items. They are meant to store baby food, which they worked great for. But once we were beyond that phase of feeding, they were just taking up space in our drawers.

But one day it occurred to me: the little organizers that the blocks would sit in could be little trays for all varieties of Cora’s favorite snacks. Eureka!

Blueberries and cheese and crackers, oh my!

We call it “snack tray” (clever, right?) and, while it may not seem like a big deal, it’s pretty popular in our house. Cora really does love it and it gives me more reason to put more variety into her meals. Any variation of the following has been a hit and that’s just the tip of the iceberg:

  1. Raisins
  2. Apples
  3. Yogurt
  4. Nuts
  5. Cottage cheese
  6. Cereal
  7. Cheese
  8. Graham crackers
  9. Oranges
  10. Mixed veggies

So there you have it! For all you toddler parents with those Oxo Baby Blocks laying around, now you have a great reason to bust them out again. Enjoy!
